Bug Works Privacy Policy

Our philosophy at Bug Works is simple: your data is yours. We are a high-privacy platform built on the decentralized Web3 Fediverse. This means we collect the absolute minimum information necessary to provide our service, and we never sell or rent your data.

1. What We Collect (And Why)

To create your account:

  • We only require a username and an email address. We use your email only for account verification and password resets.

To run the service:

  • We may temporarily log your IP address to prevent spam, fight abuse, and ensure the security of our server. These logs are automatically deleted after 14 days.

Information you choose to share:

  • Any information you voluntarily add to your profile, such as a display name, biography, or profile picture.

2. What We Don't Do

We are committed to your privacy. We will NEVER:

  • Sell, rent, or trade your personal data.
  • Use third-party trackers (like Google Analytics) to follow you.
  • Use your data to serve you targeted ads.
  • Collect any sensitive personal data you don't voluntarily provide.

3. The Fediverse: How Your Data is Shared

This is the most important part. Bug Works is not a single, isolated website. It is part of the "Fediverse," an interconnected network of thousands of independent servers.

  • Public Posts are Public: When you make a public post, our server shares it with other servers in the network whose users follow you or interact with your content.
  • Other Servers Have Other Rules: Once your public post is on another server, it is subject to that server's rules and policies. We cannot control data on servers we don't operate.
  • Think of it like email: We are your "email provider." We protect your data on our server, but when you send a message to someone at a different provider (another server), we can't control what they do with it.

Bottom line: A public post on the Fediverse is public everywhere.

4. Your Control and Your Rights

You are in charge of your data.

  • Editing & Deleting: You can edit and delete your posts and profile information at any time.
  • Deletion Requests: When you delete a post, our server sends a "deletion request" to all the servers we originally sent it to. However, we cannot force them to honor this request.
  • Data Export: You can download an archive of all your data at any time.
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your entire account, which will remove your data from the Bug Works server and send deletion requests to the network.

5. Cookies

We use a single cookie for one purpose: to keep you logged into your account. We do not use any tracking or advertising cookies.

6. Changes to This Policy

We will rarely change this policy, but if we do, we will notify you of any significant updates.
